Jon S. Ferlise, CPA – Founder
Jon is the founder of Left Mind and he specializes in assisting business owners and management teams to develop and implement strategic plans for their successful, growth-oriented small to medium-sized businesses. He also provides consulting services for budget/financial planning and back-end accounting, which he views as an important foundation to support a company’s strategic goals. In addition, he provides management advisory services for specialized business transactions such as mergers, acquisitions, exits and business valuations.
Jon has a diverse background with over 19 years of professional experience in multiple industries.
Most recently, Jon provided consulting services to a small, growing company specializing in software as a service (SaaS). The management team was seeking an exit but was finding they were getting offers well below expected valuation levels. The company hired Left Mind and we proceeded to build key financial reports, industry metric comps and put strategic financial planning tools in place. This partnership contributed to the successful sale of the company at a price that was over 50% higher than the company’s original target price.
Jon has also built a successful baseball weblog focusing on the Chicago Cubs from the ground up. Starting in March of 2016, Jon launched his website with no followers and no traffic. In January 2017 his website merged with another website and is now the second largest privately owned Cubs weblog, sustaining 40% month-over-month growth since the merger. He likes to think he had something to do with the Cubs winning the World Series and even attended all seven games.
In addition to his entrepreneurial experience, Jon previously served in a challenging and dynamic executive role as a Director of Finance at US Airways until the merger with American Airlines. Partnering with business division leaders, he led a team that managed all aspects of finance for those businesses, including strategic planning, budgeting/forecasting, cost/benefit analyses, capital projects and month-end close. Jon’s experience at US Airways also included working in accounting, financial reporting, corporate finance, contract negotiations, debt restructuring and aircraft purchase and financing. Prior to US Airways, Jon worked primarily in public accounting performing audit engagements, financial statement reviews, compilations and preparing tax returns.
In his spare time, you can find Jon traveling the world with his wife, Smila, and their two awesome sons, Wyatt (age 5) and Sawyer (age 3). Jon is passionate about supporting local charities and previously served for 6 years on the board of directors of Make A Wish Foundation of Arizona. He usually on a mountain in his spare time and loves to mountain bike, trail run, ski….basically anything outdoors.
